MY APPROACH

Evidence-based, individualized care

Most people I work with come to therapy with concerns around how a difficult life experience is affecting them, adjusting to major life changes, or finding themselves stuck in patterns of thinking, feeling, behaving, and/or relating to others that are not serving them well. Therapy provides an opportunity to cultivate an attitude of compassion and curiosity toward one's own experience, develop new insights about it, and learn and practice new ways of responding to yourself and others.

My style of therapy is informed by psychodynamic and attachment-focused theories and practice. The therapeutic relationship, and here-and-now experience of both the Client and myself, are of utmost importance to our work together and will be a focus of our attention throughout therapy. I also draw from mindfulness-based therapies, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Mindful Self-Compassion.

For Clients who are seeking to learn new skills around coping with emotional distress, managing strong feelings and reactivity, more effectively communicating and relating to others, and/or mindfulness, our work together can also provide concrete tools and strategies to meet these goals.

Individual healing, growth, and change occur within and must include each person's unique life context. A person's cultural and racial identity, sexual orientation, gender identity, as well as their environment and the different communities to which they belong, all impact their mental and emotional well being. Therapy is an opportunity to explore how aspects of one's identity and environment have impact one's life. It also provides tools for learning new ways of relating to one's self, others, and environment.
